Company Information
KDL Enterprises,
Inc. began in
1978 as a sheet
metal shop owned
and operated
by Kit and Dan
Law. The
company's first
skylight product,
dubbed "Dandee",
outpaced sales
of other products
and quickly became
the main focus
of the operation.
KDL was sold
to Stuart Thornton
in 1985; he re-engineered
the product and
changed the product
name to "Western
Skylights".
Don Hess purchased
KDL in 1990;
since that time
the company has
experienced tremendous
sales growth.
KDL Enterprises,
Inc. has become
a regional leader
(Washington,
Oregon, Idaho,
and Alaska) in
residential skylights
by building a
quality product
backed by unparalleled
customer service.
To continue
to grow the business
and provide growth
opportunities
for its employees,
other markets
for skylights
were investigated.
It became clear
that our products
were uniquely
suited for the
Pacific Northwest
climate and were,
in effect, "overbuilt"
for warmer and
drier climates.
Instead of producing
a "cheaper"
skylight product
for these markets,
a totally new
product offering
was chosen to
expand business.
Because glass
and aluminum
are the main
components of
Western Skylights,
a product was
sought with a
similar composition
so as to enhance
KDL's purchasing
power.
Research in remodeling
and building
trends revealed
that decks were
becoming increasingly
popular in our
marketing area,
and that low
maintenance products
were being sought
for these projects.
An analysis of
KDL's current
dealers proved
that no comparable
products were
being offered
through building
supply centers.
The product was
clearly a perfect
compliment to
the skylights
because it utilized
the same raw
materials and
was vastly under
marketed in KDL's
trading area.
Thus Western
ClearView Railing
Systems was created
in 1995 to manufacture,
market and distribute
the highest quality
glass and aluminum
hand railing
systems at a
competitive price
with the best
service in the
industry.
The company outgrew
its original
location in Bellevue,
Washington.
A new 25,000
square foot building
was built to
unify both product
divisions under
one roof and
to modernize
and streamline
operations.
KDL Enterprises,
Inc. has been
operating from
the Kent, Washington
facility since
May 15, 1998.
